Intro: Why Is Love So Far Behind

from the album ‘Soldier Jack’ by The ZED Collective – Press Play Below

Soldier Jack is an album that can best be described as a “musical play,” telling the poignant story of a young soldier who fought in the First World War. Each song within the album contributes to a larger narrative, guiding the listener through both Jack’s and his mother’s emotional and physical journey during World War 1. The lyrics attempt to capture the challenges, fears, hopes, and heartache of war.

To fully grasp the context of the album’s story, it is advisable to listen to each track in the order it was intended, as the songs build upon one another, much like scenes in a play. Each song has an introduction that sets the stage for the unfolding events, providing important background information and cues. By following this sequence, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the narrative arc and the underlying theme that resonate throughout the album.

LYRICS for the introduction titled ‘Why Is Love So Far Behind’

In World War One, more than 7 million soldiers like Jack died.

In World War Two alone, more than 21 million soldiers died.

Those numbers are much higher when you count the many millions of ordinary civilians who died due to the fighting. And the millions more who die from hunger and disease resulting from war.

In just the hundred years spanning from 1900 to the year 2000, it is estimated that 180 million people have died, somewhere in the world, as a result of war.

The actual number could be much higher.
Nobody really knows.

All those dead were somebody’s sons, fathers, mothers, and daughters.
Young and old, from far and wide.

Bullets flying soldiers dying,
The war machine leaves mothers crying,

Hatred’s grip is strangling tight,
Darkness falls obscuring light.

Leaders preaching still deceiving,
With every word more hearts are grieving,

Lines are drawn, with blood they’re etched,
Innocence lost, no soul untouched.

Stop fighting can’t you see, we’re tearing down humanity,

Why is love so far behind, send love to the front line.
